Comments:
What a great find for the
Light Sport pilot!
Why are 63 year-old Ercoupes popular with LSA pilots? Because it is
the only old plane with tricycle gear and electric start that
qualifies for Light Sport. But, for a similar price you can buy this
plane.
The Avid Mark IV has a Vagabond style
cowling, front mounted radiator, fiberglass wing tank, Matco
hydraulic disk brakes and wheels, Maule tailwheel with 11/2"
tailspring, steel tubing dorsal, belly, and side stringers, and an
external baggage locker.
The LSA (Light Sport Aircraft) segment of aviation is
exploding, with manufacturers rushing to bring planes to the
market. But, most of these aircraft are $80,000 or more, some
well over $100,000. That leaves the Sport Pilot on a budget with
limited choices. A well-built modern tricycle gear aircraft like
this offers a great opportunity. If your plan is to get a Light
Sport License and use it to fly around in your local area to
punch a few holes in the clouds, this may be the perfect plane
for you.
