Ignoring Clint Eastwood's advice in "Dirty Harry" that opinions, like certain body parts, are best kept to yourself.
Depression
Losing a life partner can feel like you're stepping into a world that no longer makes sense. The sudden change in routines and companionship you built together over the years leaves many older adults feeling so disoriented that even simple daily tasks can become difficult and unfamiliar. Grief is a natural response to such a profound loss. But sometimes, grief can deepen into something more persistent and overwhelming: clinical depression.
As a soon-to-be 83 year old widower for 7 years, traveling alone is no longer the experience I enjoyed with my wife of 53 years, when we hit the road full time 15 years ago. Hazel and I went everywhere, documenting it in our travel blog at www.mytripjournal.com/ronandhazel, it was a wonderful part of my life. Hazel died of cancer in 2019, and I tried to keep up the travel routine, but it just wasn't the same. I'd head down to Florida, as we always did, and stop along the way, but when I stayed at an RV park in Georgia for a while, there was a knock on the door, two men from the RV office were doing a "welfare check" to see if I was still alive. I hadn't been outdoors since checking in, and they were concerned. I'd been inside the motorhome watching television and movies, I could have done that back in Minnesota.

Housekeeping over time has gone completely to hell, dishes stacked in the sink, laundry piling up, floor needing scrubbing or vacuuming, the outside of the RV hadn't been washed and scrubbed since I don't know when. I guess I assumed that beds made themselves, and I started to wear my clothes for several days, mainly because I was running out of fresh ones. A friend, concerned about me asked one day on phone, "Ron, I assume you're shaving and showering on a regular basis, right?" I asked him what month this was.

Self-diagonosing, I had to admit that I must be suffering a "senior widower depression", and I'm not sure what the cure is. I don't need a new wife, Hazel and I were married for 53 years, and I miss her terribly every day, what I need is a cleaning lady.

A while back, I was talking to a widow a few years younger than me, and she mentioned how she'd love to take one of the motorhome trips to the South in the winter with me. I was flattered, but told her that would be great, except her reputation would be shot to hell with the Ladies Altar Society, and I'm not sure how that would work.

After writing this, I decided to definitely do some laundry and dishes tomorrow, and scrub the floor in the RV. Well, at least in the bathroom, and clean the toilet, it needs it.

Follow us as we travel around in our motorhome.
Please visit my travel blog to learn more about my life on the road, traveling with my wife for about 10 years. I continued alone after Hazel's death for about 5 years, but it wasn't the same, not much to report in the travel blog, and for the past two years, I've been parked in front of my daughter's Minnesota lake cabin. I'm not sure I can handle another Minnesota winter, and hope to be on the road South again this Fall. We'll see.

In October 2017, The New York Times reported that dozens of women had accused film producer Harvey Weinstein of rape, sexual assault and sexual abuse over a period of at least 30 years. Over 80 women in the film industry eventually accused Weins, Weinstein was arrested and charged with rape and other offenses. Weinstein denied any non-consensual sex. Investigations into complaints from at least six women took place. In 2020, he was found guilty of rape and criminal sexual acts.

Before leaving the White House, President Joe Biden granted blanket immunity to Dr. Fauci for anything he not yet been convicted of doing. But do those pardons remove the recipients' rights to ''take the Fifth'' if subpoenaed in a federal investigation? In play here are critical parts of the Constitution: the Fifth Amendment and the president's power to issue pardons. These provisions raise questions about the ability of a person accepting a pardon to invoke the Fifth Amendment before Congress.

Residents are increasingly pushing back against plans to build data centers in or near their communities. Are their concerns legitimate or exaggerated?

Jefferson inherited not one but two large estates, his father's and his father-in-law's, and earned a respectable income of his own from a variety of ventures. When he died at age 83 in 1826, he left behind debts in excess of $100,000, over $1 million in today's dollars. He was many things during his long life: Founding Father, U.S. president, ambassador to France, architect, author, farmer, inventor, violinist and all-around renaissance man, and an incorrigible shopaholic.

This is something we see happening all around us; there are people who make it to their eighties and yet remain ''electric''; they are sharp, full of curiosity, and have remained fully integrated within the community. However, there are also those who start fading away ''much sooner than expected''; they lack energy and focus, and start withdrawing from those around them. And while we attribute such occurrences to ''the luck of the draw'' or genetics, science tells a different story altogether.

The word ''hurricane'' finds its roots in the Caribbean, where the indigenous Taíno people of the Greater Antilles worshiped an evil storm deity named Juracán. This god's name may have come from the Mayan god of wind, Huracan. The Spanish adopted the words ''huracán'' and ''furacán'' to describe the intense storms and brought them to Europe. The word eventually became widespread in the English language as European colonial powers expanded their territories and encountered these storms in the Atlantic.
