Ignoring
Clint Eastwood's advice in "Dirty Harry" that
opinions, like certain body parts, are best kept to
yourself.
The

healthline.com/health/ghosting Ghosting,
or suddenly disappearing from someones life without so
much as a call, email, or text, has become a common
phenomenon in the modern world.
It has happened, I
think, to all of us, including me. In the early years, high
school and college it seemed natural, you simply moved away
from individuals or groups you were associated with, lost
track of them, gained new friends and acquaintences, and the
old ones just faded away.
Now, it can happen, not
in a fading, but instantly and maybe hurtful. I said or did
the wrong thing without thinking, or the other person could
no longer be polite or forgiving of what I did or said.
My grandmother used to say "never discuss
politics or religion", and I'm realizing she was right
if you wanted to avoid conflict. I can't seem to avoid
either topic. And, sometimes, I just act stupidly, without
rehearsing what I'm about to say I just come out with it.
I
regret losing a couple of friends this way, one recently.
Life is too short to do that, and my best friend in life, my
wife Hazel, who shared my life for 53 years, is no longer
here to help me solve the problem. I cling to those
long-time friends I still have, with regular visits in
person, on the telephone, or by internet transmissions, and
look forward to those get-togethers.
Recently, a
good friend for many years told me that at age 87 he's been
accepted to go to medical school. "Really?" I
said. "Yes," he replied, "I'm
donating my body to science, and they tell me I'm going to
one of the most prestigious medical schools in the country".
The way he talked, I think he was actually looking
forward to it.
