Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and that means it's time to start planning for the big feast. If you're like many home cooks, thawing and cooking the turkey can be two of the most stressful parts of the holiday prep. Luckily, Charla Draper, a nationally recognized spokesperson for Butterball, is here to share her top tips for the fastest and safest way to thaw your Thanksgiving turkey. The winner of two Academy Awards, star of countless films, Frank Underwood in House of Cards? Kevin Spacey has had his ups and downs over the years, from acclaim to cancellation. Few might have predicted this, but there he was, in the Monte Caputo club, on stage in a tuxedo and bow tie, backed by a six-piece band, singing a collection of standards from the American songbook and a few more. Among them, the song, Who Can I Turn To?, which, given all he has been through, seemed particularly apt.
On November 21, 1963, President John Kennedy and his wife Jacqueline visited Houston, Texas on their way to the fateful visit the next day in Dallas. Local newspapers and television stations covered the event.
Part Two Part Three
Everyone above the age of reason on November 22, 1963 remembers where they were when the news flashed around the world that President John F. Kennedy had been shot and killed. Everyone except George Herbert Walker Bush, who when asked years later said ''I don't recall''. See the photo of young CIA agent George Bush standing in front of the Texas School Book Depository on that fateful day.
Wondering what to have for dinner? Wonder no more. Salvator Mundi was at one time believed to have been destroyed. The painting disappeared from 1763 until 1900, when it was bought by Sir Charles Robinson as a work by Bernardino Luini, a follower of Leonardo. It next appeared in 1958 where it sold for £45 - about $125 at the time. It then disappeared again until 2005. Some experts question the attribution to Leonardo, but it was sold once more at Christie's in 2017 for $450 million, a new record price for an artwork. Some people have too much money. If you get an alert that your website is down, you should immediately confirm whether or not that's true. It is definitely possible to get a false positive, or find yourself in a situation where some people may see the site down and others don't. you're the only person who can check or everyone is in the same physical location, then use one of the author's favorite tools: Downforeveryoneorjustme.com to see if the website is really down. Every year people head to Florida for the winter. They flock there by the millions pulling or driving their winter homes. Who wouldn't want to RV in Florida for the winter? As you head south, it gets warmer and the best place to swim and spend time on the water is near the Gulf. Getting your reservation, even a year ahead of time, is good planning on your part. Is your RV older than 10 years? The best RV parks, especially in the Keys, can be snooty and turn you away.
Researchers have successfully attached ultra-lightweight sensors to monarch butterflies, allowing them to monitor the insects’ movements from North America to their winter sanctuaries in the Oyamel fir forests of central Mexico. The devices weigh less than a grain of rice and emit signals that can be followed for thousands of miles. On November 18, 1963, the 35th President of the United States, John Kennedy, visited Tampa, Florida. Four days later, he was assassinated in Dallas. ''Lawrence H Pfaff Sr. was born in Belmont, NY, on April 16, 1941. He passed away on June 27, 2022, living a long life, much longer than he deserved. He is survived by his three children, no four. Oops, five children.'' And, the obituary gets worse as you read it. It is one of the miracles of cinema that in 1941 a first-time director; a cynical, hard-drinking writer; an innovative cinematographer, and a group of New York stage and radio actors were given the keys to a studio and total control, and made a masterpiece. ''Citizen Kane'' is more than a great movie. Many feel it was the greatest film ever made.
If a person has skin tags on their skin, this means that colonies of deadly parasites have settled in their internal organs and are slowly eating your flesh. According to statistics, more than one billion people are infected with parasites. Well, that's a comforting thought. The DuMont Television Network operated from 1946 to 1956, competing with ABC, CBS, and NBC with shows like "Life is Worth Living" with Bishop Sheen. Did anyone bring this up during the conclave? Prior to his Popedom, back in 2013, Leo posted a list on Twitter of the ''best'' Christmas movies. The list, which has subsequently been dubbed ''Pope Leo XIV's Best Christmas Movies'' contains classics like Miracle on 34th Street, White Christmas, A Christmas Story and It's a Wonderful Life. And one stinker, Fred Claus, the story of Santa's deadbeat brother. Although scientists already knew that sperm whales communicate with codas, sequences of clicks analogous to Morse code, the study indicates a more complex communication system. Researchers used recordings collected from social units of sperm whales off the coast of the island of Dominica. When they sped up the audio, removing the silences between clicks, they heard new patterns. They found acoustic similarities with two vowels - A and I - and several vowel combinations.
Stetson wasn’t just a hatmaker. Their hats have frequently been said to have “won the West” and every history of the cowboy hat really begins with them. What could be more American than Stetson? What brand would be more important to visit on my cross-country road trip than the brand that clothed history’s greatest cowboys and even Indiana Jones? Don’t believe everything you read. The inspirational bestselling book by your favorite celebrity, sports figure or politician was likely penned by someone else. Crystal skulls have long had a fringe following, and the most famous of them is one named for the explorer-author Frederick A. Mitchell-Hedges who said he found the skull in Central America in the 1930s, but his daughter Anna later said she found it under a fallen altar or inside a pyramid in British Honduras in the 1920s. Neither of their contradictory accounts is true. Like all the other crystal skulls so far examined, it is a modern creation, despite its nearly mythical place in the minds of devotees.
At 3:42 am on July 28, 1976, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck Tangshan, an industrial city of 1 million people in northern China. The quake leveled about 85% of the buildings in Tangshan, which had been built on the unstable soil of the Luanhe River's flood plain. This alluvial soil liquefied during the quake, undermining entire neighborhoods. Hundreds of thousands of people lay dead after the quake, and more were trapped in the rubble. Coal miners working underground perished when the mines collapsed. Remember Nancy Pelosi's childish behavior at Donald Trump's State of the Union Address? Researchers have recently identified something in the human brain that they are calling the 'Hate Circuit'. William Rataczak, the co-pilot caught at the center of one of America's most famous unsolved crimes, has died at 86. More than 50 years after the hijacking that made him an unwitting witness to an outlaw legend, the mystery of DB Cooper endures. A former Air Force pilot, Rataczak spent decades fielding questions about the November night that became aviation legend. A tiny strip of Yellowstone National Park sits inside Idaho, made famous by the television show ''Yellowstone'' for a place to dump bodies that will never be found, nicknamed ''the train station''. It's a desolate 50 square miles: There are no roads, and trails are overgrown. It's mostly lodgepole pine forests, a few rivers, a waterfall and not much else, other than wildlife. Almost no one hikes here, and more importantly, no one lives here, either. So, no town, no sheriff, no law enforcement of any kind.
Let's give credit where credit is due, under Secretary Noem’s leadership, the hardworking men and women of DHS are fulfilling President Trump’s promise to Make America Safe Again by removing violent criminal illegal aliens. From 2015: Movies and TV shows would have you believe that traveling during the holidays is a terrible thing. All of life's secrets are revealed to you in the movies. But the author of this article says the exact opposite is true and he loves to travel during the holidays. The sidesaddle was invented in the fourteenth century to protect the virginity of a teenage princess as she made her way across Europe to wed the young King of England. So, the assumption the sidesaddle was a product of fashion because of long flowing skirts and dresses, isn't how this particular piece of tack came about. Instead, it was to protect the physical proof of a princess's royal virtue. And the rest is history. Decades of inflation had taken their toll on the humble coin. It took its final breath in Philadelphia, where it had been born in 1793, a year after its authorization by the newly established U.S. Mint: In November, 2025, the mint there formally stamped what it said would be the country's last circulating pennies in a ceremony celebrating an icon as emblematic of the national ethos as lunch pails, piggy banks and the American Dream. No other U.S. coin has been in circulation longer.
What began one autumn day with five artists, flourished into an elite organization that has lasted over five decades to become one of the most influential artists' groups in American history. The Cowboy Artists of America have influenced the landscape of American art in ways its founders could never have imagined. The art produced by members over the years set the standard for contemporary Western realism and is represented in prestigious public and private collections around the world. Updated 2025: Veterans Day is a U.S. legal holiday dedicated to American veterans of all wars, and Veterans Day 2025 will occur on Tuesday, November 11. In 1918, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in World War I, then known as ''the Great War.'' In mid-August 2020, Erick Higuera’s drone recorded a brutal hunt off Baja California in Mexico. A pod of orcas was hitting a great white shark — flipping it upside down and pushing it below the surface, only to come back up with its liver. A career criminal with enough drugs in his system to kill an elephant, the minority population, never letting an opportunity go to waste, latched on to George Floyd's death in 2020 while in police custody to riot and burn-down Minneapolis while early Christmas shopping for free at Target and other retailers. Floyd killed himself with a drug overdose, but went from sinner to saint in just one day.
Short answer: Undocumented immigrants are not uniformly receiving ''free'' routine healthcare across US hospitals; federal law requires emergency care regardless of immigration status, while coverage beyond emergencies varies widely by state, hospital policy, and charity rules. A July 2025 review found substantial state-by-state variation in Emergency Medicaid and other temporary coverage, and academic reviews from 2024 document persistent barriers and exclusions that limit access. James Watson's decoding of the blueprint for life with Francis H.C. Crick made him one of the most important scientists of the 20th century. He wrote a celebrated memoir and later ignited an uproar when his research showed him that all races were not equal. In its 250 years, the United States has been involved in a dozen major wars to defend our nation, preserve our freedom and democracy, and serve our national interests. The major conflicts include the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Mexican War, the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, and the Wars against Terrorism, including the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Our armed forces have gone into harm's way many other times. Representative Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) announced that she will not seek re-election at the end of her current term. Upon leaving Congress, she is expected to collect an annual pension beginning at an estimated $107,860—one of the highest available under the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS).
Along the quiet coast of South Carolina, a ghost is said to walk. He doesn't haunt with menace. He doesn't rattle chains or shriek in the night. He just appears, still, silent, and dressed in gray. They call him the Gray Man of Pawleys Island, and locals know that when he shows up, trouble isn't far behind. For more than two centuries, he's been seen just before hurricanes strike. And, people who see him often survive with their homes untouched, even when everything around them is flattened. The Edmund Fitzgerald was a feat of engineering when it launched in 1958. Commissioned by the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company of Milwaukee and named after the company's president, it was the longest ship moving through the Great Lakes at the time. The ship wasn't the only vessel on the lake that November night. But it was the only one that sank. It went down rapidly and without any survivors. What happened in those final minutes? Congressional pensions are calculated at 1.7% of salary for the first 20 years and 1% for each year over 20 years, and that can result in a pension of 44% of their highest pay. My son Glenn was in California in 2004 to appear on ''Jeopardy''. The pilot for their flight home invited them into the cabin for this photo. Did he win? No, it was close, Glenn missed Final Jeopardy by a few hundred dollars, but what a great experience. When Walmart decided to honor SNAP cards when computers didn't show available balances, shoppers loaded carts with groceries they really couldn't pay for. With flights being cancelled because of the government shutdown and shortage of air traffic controllers, see all flight plan flights world wide in real time. Click on a flight, then try the cockpit view, amazing! There have been a plethora of incredible storms recorded around the Great Lakes through the ages but the most ferocious of them all occurred in November, 1913. Nicknamed ''The Great White Hurricane'' this monster storm ravaged the entire Great Lakes region with wind gusts up to 100 mph, killing over 250 people and destroyed 19 ships. In 1975, a vicious November storm pounded parts of the Great Lakes and caused the sinking of the ''Edmund Fitzgerald''. The 1913 storm was much stronger and widespread.
The Stinchfield Podcast exposes the staggering waste, fraud, and abuse inside America's SNAP food stamp program. Billions of taxpayer dollars are being drained each year as illegal aliens and ineligible recipients take advantage of a system meant to feed the truly needy. The data shows an uncomfortable truth - SNAP recipients are, on average, significantly more overweight than Americans who aren't on the program. The story of "Romance of the Skies" involves two suspected bombers, big insurance policies, a possible bad propeller, and a missing flight tape recording. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries dodged multiple questions on Fox News about his predecessor, Nancy Pelosi branding President Donald Trump a ''vile creature'' and the ''worst thing on the face of the earth'' Jeffries was asked about Pelosi's comments during an interview with Bret Baier on Fox News, who asked him ''Do you stand by what your mentor, Congresswoman Pelosi, said about the president?'' Jeffries smirked and opted to shower Pelosi with praise, rather than answer the question. Over 700 lives were lost, and most of the country didn't even know about it. The National Weather Service did not issue a warning, because they felt New Englanders would ''ignore it anyway''.
Minnesota winters bring unique challenges, and with them come specific laws and rules designed to keep everyone safe and the season running smoothly. Check them out so your winter doesn’t become more chaotic or expensive than it needs to be. Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani's New York City primary win has sparked intense warnings from Florida's GOP, especially after Gov. Ron DeSantis linked the result to potential migration shifts. Florida Republican congressmen also swiftly condemned Mamdani's progressive platform, drawing sharp contrasts with Florida's conservative governance and warning against the importation of ''Big Apple politics.'' Do you know what Nancy Pelosi thinks is the ''worst thing on the face of the earth?'' The democratically elected leader of the country she serves as a representative. Pelosi made the remarks during an interview with CNN's Elex Michaelson as she wraps up campaigning for California's Proposition 50, a move that would gerrymander the state even more toward the Democrats. The Hughes Glomar Explorer was a salvage ship built by Howard Hughes for a clandestine Central Intelligence Agency mission to retrieve a sunken Soviet submarine.

Your atomic clock needs to receive signals from the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Boulder, Colorado (NIST) to correct the time. Place your atomic clock in a window, or outside, facing towards Colorado. Leave it for at least four minutes so that it can find the signal. On a daily basis, the clock will search for a signal at 2 AM for eight minutes, but, depending where it is mounted in your home, may not find it. Kamala Harris has traveled extensively to promote her tell-all book ''107 Days,'' describing her short-lived run for the presidency. She faced a tense interview with Australian Broadcasting Corporation's Sarah Ferguson who pressed her not only about her future political aspirations but also her record as former President Biden's running-mate. It’s an unfortunate truth of life; not every interaction we have is a fair one. Sometimes, we get the short end of the stick. Sometimes, we’re taken for a ride, taken advantage of, or just plain taken aback. Yes, we’ve all been there—deceived, let down, or outright screwed over. It’s a bitter pill to swallow, but it’s a universal experience that unites us in our shared human frailty. The re-election of Donald Trump in 2024, coupled with his sweeping victories in both the popular and electoral votes has triggered widespread emotional and psychological reactions. For many on the political left, this event represented a catastrophic failure of their ideological worldview, exacerbated by Kamala Harris’s underwhelming presidential campaign and defeat.
While JFK came up with the idea for the book, it was actually written by his speech writer Ted Sorensen. Perhaps the only ghost-written book to win a Pulitzer. ''Marjorie Johnson died the other day at 106, presumably peacefully and no doubt having completed another round of championship baking in her custom-sized kitchen in Robbinsdale. Everything in the kitchen was built to accommodate Johnson’s height. In her prime, which was longer than it is for most people, Marjorie stood 4 feet, 8 inches tall and would have blown down the street in a good wind.'' As the most successful recording artist of all time; an abiding star of movies, radio, and television; and a firm believer in the wonders of technology, Bing helped to transform and define the cultural life not only of the United States, but of the world. The traditionalists aren’t entirely in the wrong — there’s something undeniably comforting about the scent of tomatoes, garlic, and basil gently simmering on the stove, and the rich flavor of homemade sauce is hard to beat. But life doesn’t always afford time for slow cooking. For busy parents juggling school drop-offs, college students with a mountain of homework, or even experienced home cooks in a rush, a jar of marinara can be a lifeline.
Harry Houdini died on Halloween, adding to the interest in his death, and seances to contact him on that night continue to this day. ''The Legend of Sleepy Hollow'', written by Washington Irving in 1820, has become a classic Halloween tale for its spectral villain, the Headless Horseman, and its hapless hero, Ichabod Crane. Made into an animated short feature by Walt Disney in 1949, and narrated by Bing Crosby, it became an instant hit, delightfully scaring a nation of school-age children, including me. Democrats have taken a bold stand by vowing to starve as many food stamp recipients as it takes to get free healthcare for illegal immigrants. According to prominent Democratic leaders, starving a couple million kids is a small price to pay to ensure that blue states continue to provide free healthcare to illegal immigrants. Some Americans are posing as illegals just to get free healthcare. The earlier pancreatic cancer is caught, the better a person’s chance of survival. But most patients don’t have symptoms of pancreatic cancer in early stages. Only 10-15% of patients are diagnosed when cancer is just in the pancreas and may be removed by surgery. It is often discovered after the cancer has spread, when patients have symptoms such as jaundice, pain, and weight loss. Currently, there is no way to screen for pancreatic cancer.
From the Minnesota Department of Corrections transgender policy: Placement is determined through an assessment by a Gender Identity Committee, which considers nine factors, including the inmate's views on their own safety, security level, medical needs, and gender expression. A committee is going to consider a convicted predator's own views on what he really needs to feel safe and happy, what his medical needs are to live as his authentic self, rather than the women he will be locked up with. The mechanical buzz of drones has been a growing issue in national parks for years. And in step with increases in other illegal activities like BASE jumping and ''bear jam'' wildlife harassment, drone incidents have also increased during the ongoing federal government shutdown, according to tour guides who frequent Yosemite National Park.
Sam Mendes, who directed the Bond film ''Spectre'', had the idea of depicting the Day of the Dead celebrations as a very spectacular parade with dancing and floats. The movie's Mexican creative team helped to create this amazing parade inspired by the traditional Day of the Dead decorations, dancing and music. It was so spectacular that when the film came out, the city was inspired to continue doing the parade. Each year since then, it's become more and more popular, with annual crowds of 300,000 or more. Unlike other team owners who pretended there weren't any African Americans good enough, Marshall was honest enough to say he just didn’t want them around. I know it is hard for the younger generation to understand this, but anyone old enough to be on Social Security is probably old enough to remember ''whites only'' water fountains and restrooms. It was a different time in America, not better, just different.
Pepsi paid millions to paint a Concorde in its iconic blue livery. But the passengers who paid first class fares to fly the iconic jet got a much slower and shortened ride as the blue paint heated the jet so much it was allowed to fly at Mach 2 speed for just 10 minutes. Don't believe everything you read. Here are 50 examples of popular sayings that are actually misquotes or misattributions. In fact, a good percentage of famous quotations are attributed to the wrong people or just not have been said by anyone. Did my grandmother Doyle really say ''you can't beat fun for having a good time?'' It might be that I heard it somewhere else, or just came up with it on my own. From 2004: On the school district's list of guidelines related to holidays and celebrations is an item that reads: ''Use of derogatory stereotypes is prohibited, such as the traditional image of a witch, which is offensive to members of the Wiccan religion.'' A statuette from the John Huston–Humphrey Bogart classic ''The Maltese Falcon'' is one of the most recognizable, and sought-after, pieces of movie memorabilia in history. In fact, Steve Wynn paid $4.1 million for it. But was it the genuine article? Bryan Burrough tracks down a flock of Falcons, with links to both Leonardo DiCaprio and a famous Hollywood unsolved murder.
Voyager 1 is a NASA space probe launched in 1977 that is now in interstellar space, having crossed the heliopause in 2012. Its original mission was to study Jupiter and Saturn, but it is now the most distant human-made object from Earth and continues to send back data. The spacecraft is managed by NASA's Deep Space Network and its mission highlights include exploring the outer planets and carrying a Golden Record with a message to potential extraterrestrial life. There has been little public information released about the layout or design of the addition, which would be the largest ever, with a planned size almost double the footprint of the 55,000-square-foot main section of the White House. In 2009, CBN contributor Kimberly Daniels said that most of the candy sold during the halloween season has been ''dedicated and prayed over by witches.'' That was a bit too much even for Pat Robertson, and the article was pulled. But, not before it was saved by others. When Congress fails to pass a budget, more than 400 national park sites—from Yellowstone to the smallest battlefield—face closures. The impact of government shutdown on parks is mounting fast. National parks are losing about $1 million every day in entrance and campground fees, and local economies that rely on park visitors are feeling the pinch.
Anglican bishop James Ussher published ''Annals of the World'', and arrived at the date of Oct. 23 because most peoples of antiquity started their calendar at harvest time. Kathryn Bigelow returns to the intersection of facts and thrills. Her newest, ''A House of Dynamite,'' about a nuclear missile headed to the U.S., takes up themes of power and violence that have long interested her. The film will be in theatres but you can watch it now on NETFLIX. Prosopagnosia is a condition where you struggle to recognize faces or can't interpret facial expressions and cues. It usually happens because of brain damage, but some people have it at birth. Treatment focuses on underlying causes or helping you adapt so you can recognize people in other ways. I've been told for years that I have ''Robert Redford's hair'', but only once did I run into a woman who, while not positive, thought I was the guy. As inhabitants of an ancient city now called Tall el-Hammam went about their daily business about 3,600 years ago, they didn't know an unseen icy space rock was speeding toward them at 38,000 mph. Flashing through the atmosphere, the rock exploded in a massive fireball about 2.5 miles above the ground, and was 1,000 times more powerful than the Hiroshima atomic bomb.
When airline travel was an upper-middle-class experience and people dressed up to fly. Even when it became affordable to the masses after Congress passed the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978, flight attendants still served full meals and baggage was included in the cost of a ticket. Hitler had an effective way to deal with resistance. One of the most notorious examples of retaliation as punishment for resistance involved the Bohemian village of Lidice. After resistance fighters assassinated Nazi leader Reinhard Heydrich in 1942, the Nazis retaliated by liquidating the nearby town of Lidice. The Germans shot all men and older boys, deported women and children to concentration camps, razed the village to the ground, and struck its name from the map. Out of majority politicians are raging upset over President Trump's tearing out the East Wing and adding a ballroom. Claiming ''it's the people's house not his!''. Ignoring history, and on the party premise that the average voter is dumber than a box of rocks, they're attacking the project which is using no taxpayer funds. And, that alone is infuriating them, not being able to complain about the money. Jean-François Champollion is called the father of Egyptology. Using the Rosetta Stone, he was able to decipher the ancient Egyptian language. In 1822, using royal names written in cartouches as his key piece of evidence, he recognized that the Egyptian script was a combination of phonetic characters representing sounds and ideograms representing objects and concepts. From the article: ''One of the foundations of the leftist mindset is that three-word lie: save our democracy. Our government is not and never has been a democracy. Yet, the masterminds of the democrat party have inculcated this dishonest message into the minds of millions of trusting souls, like they did with the ''Affordable'' Care Act. In case you haven't noticed, Obamacare did not make care affordable, and few people were able to keep their doctors. But, to them, it's excusable.''

A recent ''No Kings'' protest has turned into a royal pain for one Chicago elementary school. Nathan Hale Elementary has gone social media dark after one of its teachers was identified as the woman who made a mockery of the assassination of conservative organizer Charlie Kirk. When a truck flying a flag in honor of Kirk drove past, Martinez pointed a finger gun at her neck, mouthing the words ''bang, bang.''. This woman teaches elementary school children, would you have her teach yours? Those Democrats are really a sneaky bunch, instead of having followers chant ''Save the Democratic Party'' they went with ''Save our Democracy'', which is pretty-much opposite of what they meant. So, millions of Americans took to the streets in order to express to the world their total and absolute ignorance about the political system they live in. Bible sales across the United States soared following the assassination of Charlie Kirk, adding to the surge of Americans returning to church. According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, 2.4 million Bibles were sold across the country in September, a 36% increase from September 2024. ''September brought a wave of troubling events-violence, geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainty-underscoring a pattern: In times of crisis, more people turn to faith for comfort and support.''
Large crowds gathered in cities all across the United States on Saturday with anti-Trump protesters attempting to make the case that Trump is a king who has overstepped his authority. Watch ''Good Night and Good Luck''. In the 1950's it was common for the government to go after those against current policies, including reporters, and perhaps accusing them of being Communists. Two years after Otter 841 menaced wave riders near Santa Cruz, there have been new encounters between the furry marine mammals and surfers. In 2023, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service used a boat and net to make several attempts to catch Otter 841. They even deployed a decoy surfboard as bait - but the savvy sea otter didn't fall for it. After eluding capture, Otter 841 still remains in the wild. Whoopi Goldberg had shocked her fans when she claimed that she can't afford to retire. This was surprising to many, as Goldberg makes $8 million a year co-hosting the talk show The View. She also has an estimated net worth of between $30 million and $60 million. This has backfired on Goldberg in a big way. Indeed, according to insiders, ABC executives are fuming with Goldberg about this rant. In fact, it seems that this might just be the last straw for Goldberg when it comes to her relationship with ABC. In 2004, potti-mouth Whoopi Goldberg gets canned by Slim-Fast. Republicans have expressed outrage over the fund-raiser for John Kerry and his vice presidential running mate, John Edwards, in which entertainers lined up to skewer the president. The New York Post said of Goldberg's appearance at the event: ''Waving a bottle of wine, she fired off a stream of vulgar sexual wordplays on Bush's name in a riff about female genitalia.''
While the Carrington Event may seem like history, there are many concerns about what might happen if an event as powerful as, or even more powerful than, the Carrington Event were to strike Earth today, now that humanity is far more dependent on electricity. If a solar storm as big as the Carrington Event struck today, it could lead to years long power outages. In 2013, President Obama weaponized his shutdown to maximize disruption, closing memorials not normally staffed, hiring security to patrol bike paths, closing self-supporting national parks, throwing veterans out of the WWII memorial, creating new websites explaining that existing websites were closed. A C.I.A. secret kept for 35 years was found in the Smithsonian's vault. Needing money for medical expenses, creator Jim Sanborn was auctioning off the solution to Kryptos, the puzzle he sculpted for the intelligence agency's headquarters in 1990. Then, two fans of the work screwed up that plan by discovering the key to solving the message. Voters rightly expect prompt results after the democratic process of casting ballots. Voter confidence in election outcomes suffers when winners and losers are not promptly announced. If Americans do not have confidence in the results of our elections, our entire system of government is imperiled. Russian dictator Josef Stalin is often quoted as saying '' The people who cast the votes decide nothing. The people who count the votes decide everything'', but historians now say he never actually said it.
The Healing Carnivore website is dedicated to guiding individuals towards reclaimed health, energy, and clarity through the transformative power of the carnivore diet. Learn the fundamentals, what to eat, and how to transition smoothly for better health. About 80,000 phones were stolen in the British capital last year. The police are finally discovering where many of them went. After years in which phone theft was a low priority for an overstretched police force, the new operations are revealing the curious blend of factors behind the epidemic, including steep cuts to British police budgets in the 2010s and a lucrative black market for European cellphones in China.
The National Shrine Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes is a place of prayer devoted to the Blessed Mother, Mary. This beautiful mountainside shrine features the oldest US replica of the Lourdes shrine in France, built just 17 years after the apparition of Our Lady to St. Bernadette in 1858. Each year, the National Shrine Grotto welcomes hundreds of thousands of pilgrims from all over the world. It is a place of worship, pilgrimage, evangelization, and reconciliation.

Controversial: Our Lady of Emmitsburg
On 30th December 1952, Albert Gunter was happily going about his day job, driving the number 78 bus over Tower Bridge towards Shoreditch. To his utter surprise, the road in front of him seemed to drop away. Slamming his foot down on the accelerator, Gunter managed to jump the rising bascule. He successfully reached the north side of Tower Bridge, which had not yet begun to open, getting all his 20 passengers across safely.
Officials present said Chuck Yeager was probably flying more than 600 miles an hour when he went under the bridge. As he flew away, he did three slow rolls before disappearing from sight. Before the fork was introduced, people would largely eat food with their hands, calling for a common spoon when required. For aristocrats, though, table manners appointed that only three fingers should be used to touch the food, leaving the little and ring fingers unused. The church felt a fork looked too much like the devil's horns, and using it was an insult to God who gave us perfectly good fingers to eat with. Beheaded and Sent to Watery Graves, Columbus Statues Get New Life. More than 30 monuments to Christopher Columbus were toppled or taken down in 2020. Now some are being restored, and finding new, usually less-public homes. Scientists have discovered that the 3I/ATLAS - a Manhattan-sized interstellar object that potentially has alien tech - is much larger than previously thought. First discovered by NASA on July 1, 2025 the cosmic anomaly has been watched as it shoots across the solar system. Believed to be a comet, it reportedly has interstellar origins, making it the third ever object from beyond the solar system ever detected after 'Oumuamua', which was discovered in 2017, and 2I/Borisov in 2019.
Born in Italy, Columbus likely changed his name to ColÃn to sound more Spanish when he moved to Spain. It should be obvious this English-sounding name that we know him by, Christopher Columbus, wasn't the name he himself used. In fact, his name in Spanish was altogether different: Cristóbal Colón. But why are his names in English and Spanish so divergent? Learn more by reading the article. When most people think about bugs, they think pests. Those obnoxious ants, those pesky mosquitoes, stinkbugs who live up to their name, termites who destroy property, and those seemingly indestructible cockroaches...but there is a lot of beauty to be found in the insect world, and not just with butterflies (but definitely some butterflies). These amazing insect photos prove that. In 2024, it was no accident that ''Squad'' members like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar were first out of the gate celebrating the Tim Walz pick as the Democratic vice presidential candidate. Bernie Sanders loves it. Hamas apologists like The Washington Post's Karen Attiah were tweeting like giddy teenagers. According to the U.S. Department of State, United States citizens traveling to most European countries should expect new automated border checks and to have their biodata digitally collected upon arrival and departure. This includes having your fingerprints and photo taken. Europeans didn't seem to mind when we came over there in World War II and saved their behinds. But, in fairness, this is something we should have been doing on our borders for a long time, especially that pesky southern one.
''Flag flap'' has a long history and ends painfully for the city. The dispute began when Greenville flagged Camping World for allegedly violating an ordinance governing flag displays. The city had pursued fines and legal action over the issue, which escalated into a formal lawsuit, spending more than $25,000 on outside legal fees. By agreeing to a voluntary dismissal, city leaders avoided further litigation costs and aligned local enforcement with a new state law. Columbus was stranded on an island now known as Jamaica in 1503. Faced with starvation, he came up with a plan to trick the natives into providing food by predicting a lunar eclipse he knew would occur. How did he know that? Eleven Italian immigrants were killed by a mob in New Orleans on March 14, 1891. In response, US President Benjamin Harrison launched Columbus Day parades to promote acceptance of immigrants. About 1 in 4 workers in the U.S. works for the local, state, or federal government, with state and federal jobs often concentrated in metropolitan areas.
Howard Zinn rode to fame and fortune on the ''untold story'' of Christopher Columbus-a shocking tale of severed hands, raped women, and gentle, enslaved people worked to death to slake the white Europeans' lust for gold. Zinn's narrative about the genocidal discoverer of America has captured our education system and popular culture. The defacement of statues of Columbus has become a ritual. Zinn is the inspiration behind replacing Columbus Day with ''Indigenous Peoples' Day.''
In all of his voyages to the New World, Columbus continued to think he had hit on some part of Asia. Other than the three children, nobody saw the Virgin Mary, and the story of the sun plunging close to earth and rotating wildly is widely disputed, but millions believe the miracle at Fatima is true. How about you? If you have watched the TV program ''Person of Interest'' you may have thought that this was science fiction, but it is here right now.
On-set brawls, courtroom battles, epic bombs. Why the world's most bankable cowboy is suddenly shooting blanks. There's a long list of people in Hollywood who swear they'll never work with Costner again. And they all have their reasons. He doesn't always pay his bills on time, and burns through relationships and ignores advice, even from folks like Steven Spielberg. The centerpiece of the Amelia Earhart Hangar Museum in Atchison, Kansas, is Muriel, the world's last remaining Lockheed Electra 10-E, which is identical to the plane Earhart flew on her final flight. Named after Earhart's younger sister, Grace Muriel Earhart Morrissey, Muriel is one of only 14 Lockheed Electra 10-E aircraft ever made. Dining out can be a pleasurable experience-an escape from cooking, a chance to try new cuisines, and an opportunity to socialize. Food safety mishandling at restaurants can turn a fun night out into a serious health hazard. Each year, food poisoning affects millions, and a significant portion of those illnesses are linked to restaurants. Knowing how to identify the warning signs of food safety violations and how to properly report them can protect not only your health, but the health of your community. Following the introduction of the MiG-25, the U.S. Air Force had to revise its requirements for the F-X program in development. Initially, the new American airframe was conceptualized to counter the air-to-air imbalance over Vietnam, where the quick MiG-21s had proven to be quite powerful. However, the the MiG-25 forced the Air Force to incorporate even more capabilities into its impending F-X program. For this reason, perhaps the F-15 Eagle can, in part, be attributed to the capability of the Foxbat.
The Militia Act and the National Defense Act of 1916 made the National Guard a reserve force that could be activated by state governors or the president, including for overseas deployments. Usually, the National Guard has been activated by state governments to restore order during natural disasters or civil unrest. But during some circumstances, the president has activated the National Guard-or federal troops-on American soil, including times when the president thought state leaders weren’t doing enough. Fruit flies are built to find fermenting fruit. They can detect the smell of ripe fruits and vegetables from a distance; if there's a bowl of fruit on your kitchen counter, there's probably a fruit fly or two looking for a way into your home to get to it. Because these insects are so tiny, they can get in through window screens. Once inside, they lay eggs on the skin of very ripe or fermenting fruit. They reproduce, and before you know it, you've got yourself a full-fledged fruit fly infestation. Chicago also happened to endure a terrible fire that same day, but the Peshtigo, Wisconsin tragedy, taking many more lives, gradually slipped into obscurity. The FP-45 was secretly called the Liberator. Its purpose was to help insurgents or resistance fighters in occupied areas. The gun was only single shot, made out of sheet metal. No rifled barrel or magazine. It was believed that its crude and ineffective design would be ignored by the enemy. Moreover, the mere presence of a liberator would hopefully damage enemy morale, knowing that the insurgents may have a firearm.
When a friend or member of your family passes the Bar Exam and becomes a lawyer, a standard gift is a nice leather briefcase. Make inquiries as to the proper style and get a recommendation from a law firm, there are briefcases and then there are briefcases, you want to buy the right one. When a friend or family member graduates from the Seminary and becomes a priest or minister, customary gifts include a gold chalice (expensive!) or perhaps a vestment. Jay Jones, a former Virginia state delegate, proving he didn't have the brains he was born with, told Republican House Delegate Carrie Coyner that he would give former Republican Virginia House Speaker Todd Gilbert ''two bullets to the head'' and urinate on his grave. Jones is running against Republican Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares in the November general election and reportedly made the comments about Gilbert after leaving the state house months earlier. And, you think you are patriotic. The Mission Statement for this group of patriotic women: To discreetly provide US troops shipping out overseas with the most sensually pleasing departure possible. Starting in 2026, most Minnesota employers will be required to offer employees 12 weeks of family leave and 12 weeks of medical leave. Annual time off will be capped at 20 weeks. Having a child, a serious illness, or caring for a sick family member are eligible for coverage. Supporting a family member called to active duty in the military, responding to personal safety issues and bonding with a child also qualify. The amount of money workers will qualify for under paid leave will depend on their wages.
Known to some as the ''Freshwater Everest,'' if you want to explore this mountain, you don't go up, you go down. Discovered in 1929 in the middle of Lake Superior, sits the Superior Shoal, a mountain that's completely underwater. The shoal is about 4 square miles of volcanic rock that rises up from the bottom of the lake to a height nearly three times that of the Statue of Liberty. Its peak wrests about 30 feet below the surface. Now, researchers are exploring it with underwater drones. In the realm of archaeology and religious history, few discoveries evoke as much wonder and intrigue as the revelation of hidden human remains. Such a discovery was made when a CT scan of an ancient Buddha statue uncovered the mummified remains of a monk. This remarkable finding has provided profound insights into the religious practices and mummification techniques of ancient Buddhists, highlighting the confluence of art, spirituality, and science. It's been four years since Daniel Craig signed off as James Bond in No Time to Die. The next Bond movie, informally known as Bond 26, marks a new chapter in the 007 universe. A new actor will replace Craig as the world's most famous secret agent. Plus, Bond 26 will be the first under Amazon's creative control, and they have to get this right, so it sets the franchise up for an exciting future. Here's everything we know about the next James Bond movie. The 'unknown actor' above? That's my son Tom. The Department of Energy canceled a $45.7 million grant that Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) helped secure for Plug Power, a green energy firm whose executives donated tens of thousands of dollars to his campaign. Biden-era grant was aimed at propping up the unprofitable hydrogen power company. Like other hydrogen power companies, Plug Power has struggled financially. In 2024, the company reported losses in excess of $2 billion, and announced significant layoffs due to economic factors.
Because of the 2025 government shutdown, national parks, which actually make money, not cost it, including Yellowstone and Grand Teton, are now facing a jumbled scenario. When they shut down in 2013 under President Obama, the parks locked their gates to the public. In 2018-19, parks remained open but with little or no staff, including no one taking fees at entrance gates, leading ranger tours, providing for public safety or protecting landmarks and resources. Just months after the people of Israel left Egypt in the year 2448 from creation (1313 BCE), they sinned by worshipping a golden calf. Moses ascended Mount Sinai and prayed to G-d to forgive them. After two 40-day stints on the mountain, full Divine favor was obtained. The day Moses came down the mountain (the 10th of Tishrei) was to be known forevermore as the Day of Atonement - Yom Kippur. Jane Goodall, renowned chimpanzee researcher and animal advocate, dies at 91. Using a good tailor can be the difference between a polished suit that fits you perfectly and one that looks like a loaner from your uncle. Even if you manage to find an off-the-rack suit that fits well, it will usually require some tweaks to go from good to great. Whenever you're buying a ready-to-wear suit, there's a very high chance that it's going to need some alterations. Some retailers offer tailoring services, but many don't. And you may be better off going with a pro you've vetted yourself. RVs? They're built for adventure, not equity. Let's get to the grim numbers first. RVs are a masterclass in value evaporation. A new RV can lose 10-15% of its worth in the first year, plummeting to 30% by year three, with luxury Class A motorhomes hitting 36% after five years. Travel trailers and fifth-wheels fare marginally better, shedding 25-30% in the same period. Compare that to a house, which often appreciates, or a car, which retains about 60% of its value after five years. An enforcement sweep in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area found widespread immigration fraud. Officers encountered blatant marriage fraud, visa overstay, people claiming to work as businesses that can't be found, forged documents, abuse of the H1B visa system, abuse of the F1 visa, and more. Minnesota has seen a massive rise in Somali immigrants, with over 82,000 Somalians. The area targeted for the enforcement sweep includes areas in the congressional district represented by Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar.
Everyone loves a good mystery. But what about those good unsolved mysteries that don't have that satisfying ending-like Scooby-Doo pulling off the mask of the culprit-and are just downright spooky? These unsolved cases, like the JonBenét Ramsey mystery and the murders of Jack the Ripper, have rocked our history books for the better part of a century. All of these cases are baffling, strange, creepy and, frustratingly, unsolved. Based on a 1974 Novel ''Six Days of the Condor'', director Sydney Pollack changed the name to pick up the pace of the film. During the CIA's ''Operation Condor'' almost all of South America had fallen under U.S.-backed military juntas who all wanted to engage in a crackdown on communists and political dissidents that may have challenged their rule. Operation Condor addresses the mistake of so many targets of assassination had escaped in 1973, but Condor would prevent that from happening again. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has faced backlash for claiming she is here to protect the interests of Somalia during a recent speech in which she spoke in Somali. Conservatives have blasted Omar for seemingly prioritizing the interests of a foreign nation instead of the U.S. which she was elected to serve. Omar gave the speech to a group of her Somali-American constituents, reacting to a move by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to assist a region/province in Somalia in becoming a sovereign state. Background: Failures by Minnesota's Education Department helped lead to largest Covid fraud scheme in the nation. Prosecutors say the agency did not properly oversee Feeding Our Future, the nonprofit at the center of an alleged $250 million Covid relief scheme that prosecutors say is the largest of its kind. Seventy people were charged, and critics say State Governor Tim Walz did nothing when signs there was something wrong began to surface. Another $14 million was stolen from the State Autism Center.
Scientists have for decades sought to harness directed energy beams into weapon systems that would be cheaper and more efficient than missiles or rockets. A growing number of countries are developing or deploying their own laser air defenses, and some have already been used in war by Israel and Ukraine. Not every rifleman in the U.S. Army rides to battle in beefy Bradley or Stryker armored vehicles—in fact, a growing number of soldiers will soon do so in Chevrolet pickup trucks. So far, the Army is in the process of converting five of these planned Mobile Brigades to fight on foot with the intention of 9–14 units in total. Still, soldiers have to reach the combat zone, so each infantry squad will get an M1301 Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV) based on Chevy’s Colorado ZR2 Bison. In 1972, American artist and psychic Ingo Swann altered the magnetic field inside a shielded vacuum container located underground for several seconds by simply thinking about it. As Harold Puthoff, a physicist with the Stanford Research Institute, witnessed the output from his magnetometer changing, he was mind-blown. There was no explanation for the reading changing. As soon as Puthoff asked Swann to stop thinking about the apparatus, the unexplained changes in the magnetic field abruptly stopped. Funny moments in sports are a staple of all sports. Some moments are so amusing that they’re still hilarious years later. They become etched in time along with the most extraordinary moments. A simple blooper or accident does more than make a few people laugh. Having the seat of your pants suddenly split wide open, I think, tops the list.
Since men perpetrate about 90% of the world’s homicides, it makes sense that nearly all of history’s most notorious serial killers are men. But they do have a small number of counterparts, and they are just as deadly. We look at some of the most horrifyingly ruthless female serial killers ever. Many used arsenic as their deadly weapon, and some killed over 100 people. Here’s a list of the 10 most famous female serial killers.. If you, like me and the author of this article, are in awe of the majestic bison or have ever wondered what it would be like to hear the rumble of a stampede of buffalo while sitting safely on the sidelines, then this is something to check out. The annual buffalo roundup in Custer State Park is a dramatic display of cowboys and cowgirls driving a herd of roughly 1400 buffalo through the park and into the corrals for testing, branding, and sorting. It is a unique experience. Under the banner ''America's Last Line of Defense'', This website is a carefully curated social experiment, designed to ''feed the Hoverounders their daily need for hate and their undying urge to blame everything in the known universe on Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.'' The website does make clear its true purpose, saying it is ''a satirical publication that uses the imagination of liberals to expose the extreme bigotry and hate and subsequent blind gullibility that festers in right-wing nutjobs''. Amazon agreed to pay $2.5 billion to settle claims that it tricked tens of millions of people into signing up for its Prime membership program, and then made it hard for customers to cancel when they wanted out.
For years, only a small portion of the people experiencing long spells of joblessness were college graduates. That's starting to change. And, more of the college educated are unemployed longer. Employers appear to have less need for college-educated workers, driven by technological change and automation. The mission of explore.org is to champion the selfless acts of others, create a portal into the soul of humanity and inspire lifelong learning. Explore.org is the world's leading philanthropic live nature cam network and documentary film channel. Hiring a bodyguard is nothing unusual in the celebrity world, with world-famous, high-net-worth individuals regularly seen flanked by security personnel in order to keep them safe and free from worry of any impending, yet undetectable, danger. But now, more than ever, wealthy and affluent individuals without the celebrity status are increasingly turning towards such services too, often feeling that their money makes them an easy target for criminals. Scholars may have just discovered a fragment of the world's oldest complete star map.The map segment, which was found beneath the text on a sheet of medieval parchment, is thought to be a copy of the long-lost star catalog of the second century B.C. Greek astronomer Hipparchus, who made the earliest known attempt to chart the entire night sky. The fragment was concealed beneath nine leaves, or folios, of the religious Codex Climaci Rescriptus at St. Catherine's Monastery in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula.

Late-night TV is well and truly dead - at the hands of the hosts themselves. Their weapon? Their own blind rage at half the country. Hosts like Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert have deluded themselves into thinking that their mandate is to save democracy with one-sided political rants, rather than serving up breezy topical humor to send Americans to their nightly slumber. Musical theater, long the bread-and-butter of Broadway, is struggling. None of the 18 commercial musicals that opened on Broadway last season has made a profit yet. Some still could, but several have been spectacular flameouts. The new musicals ''Tammy Faye,'' ''Boop!'' and ''Smash'' each cost at least $20 million to bring to the stage, and each was gone less than four months after opening. All three lost their entire investments.
Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, launched the Professor Watchlist to highlight academics accused of promoting leftist ideologies in US classrooms. The initiative, started by the conservative organisation, aims to document professors who allegedly discriminate against conservative students, sparking debates about academic freedom and campus politics. Just 38 percent of Democrats said they had prayed for Kirk, his wife, and his children, compared to 75 percent of Republicans and 55 percent overall. Among the Democrats surveyed, 31 percent said Republicans were more responsible for political violence in America, while 35 percent of Republicans answered that Democrats were more to blame. Overall, 66 percent of respondents said no single party is more responsible, with 18 percent pointing to Democrats and 15 percent to Republicans. Feel the earth shake As the hooves of more than 1,300 American buffalo thunder through the valley. At the annual Buffalo Roundup, cowboys and cowgirls on horseback spur them over the ridge, down the hill and into corrals for sorting. The Custer State herd (other than the mean bulls who refuse to cooperate) passes by only a few hundred feet from you. Mabon is a Wiccan and modern pagan holiday that celebrates the Autumn Equinox, the astronomical time of the year when day and night are equal. (The same occurs at the Spring Equinox.) The minor sabbat of Mabon falls between the fire festival of Lughnasadh and the witch’s new year, Samhain, on the Wheel of the Year, and is observed between September 21 and 24 in the Northern Hemisphere. Mabon is also the first day of Fall.
''There are various wild man myths from all over the world,'' says Joshua Blu Buhs, author of Bigfoot: The Life and Times of a Legend. In western Canada, the Sts'ailes First Nation have the ''Sasq'ets,'' the supposed origin of the word ''Sasquatch.'' However, the modern U.S. concept of Bigfoot can be traced quite directly to the Humboldt Times stories in 1958. Charlie Kirk's memorial will be held on Sunday, September 21, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, and will be covered live by Fox News and other media outlets. Click to learn more. Wildfire smoke increasingly threatens lives across the country. A new study shows smoke exposure in the coming decades will cause tens of thousands of excess deaths and predicts where exposure will occur so communities and policymakers can prepare for the health burden. In the wake of Charlie Kirk's assassination, there was an outpouring of grief, as well as misinformation. There was misinformation about who the killer was. And, more than anything, there was misinformation about what Charlie Kirk said and believed. These quotes have been passed around so much that they're basically gospel at this point. They're also mostly bunk. Look at six of the most commonly twisted Kirk quotes that are being peddled by the left in the wake of his death.
Celebrities most likely to die this year, covering everyone from beloved actors and musicians to influential politicians and cultural icons. These guesses are influenced by factors like age, health rumors, lifestyle, and even a gut feeling or two. Even though death might not be the most cheerful subject, it's less about being grim and more about acknowledging that age eventually affects us all. Marilyn Hagerty, a food columnist who startled the online world with an earnestly detail-oriented and nonjudgmental appraisal of a North Dakota Olive Garden, and who was startled in turn when the review racked up more than one million page views, bringing her national media attention and a book contract, died on Sept. 16 in Grand Forks, N.D. She was 99. Kamala Harris says one of the Biden team's biggest mistakes was holding her back and preventing her from realizing her full potential as vice president. Harris complained the White House refused to give her easy jobs that required no talent or effort. Kamala definitely was a DEI hire, with Biden folding under pressure to make his running mate a black woman, and while not an African American, her half Jamaican heritage could pass for that. Independent rural hospitals are increasingly joining what are called clinically integrated networks, collaborative groups that allow them to avoid selling out to larger health systems while sharing resources to save money and improve patient care. Many are motivated by the chance to combine their patient rolls for value-based care contracts, a growing reimbursement model in which insurers pay providers based on the quality of care they provide and the health outcomes of their patients.
